We’re setting up to launch our Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign! Every dollar we receive, from cool people like you, will go toward the following 3 goals:
- Android beta release
- ‘Scene’ support
- More social features (favorites, comments, PMs)
Stay tuned for the official launch announcement. We desperately need your help to continue this project. We’re counting on you to spread the word far and wide on socials and in person so we can reach our fundraising goal.
Thank you sincerely for being awesome!
Here’s a timeline / history of my journey to build Subjam, up until present day:
2008: I’m currently in a local band that’s starting to promote. One night I have the vision of a live web based audio player and chat box. The theme is around local, independent music. People would upload their songs, listen to them together in a playlist and chat with each other about music.
2011: My local radio station goes off air. It was the place local artists went to get radio play. I buy socorock.com and along with my original idea of an audio player + chat box, it blossoms into a blog, event calendar, our own live showcases, interviews, the works. An awesome group of volunteers gather around the project. Many good times are had.
2012: I move my family out of the area because of the much lower cost of living an hour North.
2014: Smartphones are everywhere. Instead of personally bringing my streaming laptop to shows, I realize that everyone now has the technology to broadcast live online right in their pocket. I buy coolmic.net and start the “Cool Mic” project for Android.
2015: A successful Kickstarter allows me to pay my developers to complete and release Cool Mic in the Google Play store! To our surprise, people find many alternate use cases for the app. I love seeing this – so we fork the code and also start working on subj.am, providing a full streaming backend focused on promoting local music scenes everywhere.
2021: Subjam, SPC is founded. I seek investors, self-funding for the next 4 years, with every spare penny I can get my hands on.
2022: I move my family to Washington state from NorCal due to constant wildfires in our area (We fell in love during a previous trip to Seattle.) I close my freelance tech consulting business of 20 years. In Washington, I get various I.T. jobs to make ends meet for my family, and continue self-funding small updates to Subjam whenever I can.
2025: After working for 3 years with little to no spare time, I quit with a tiny bit of savings to pay bills and focus on making Subjam succeed once and for all.
Indiegogo campaign launches soon. Let’s make some noise – please stay tuned.
